On the Approving Official Narrative and Rating page, the Approving Official may enter an optional narrative in the text box. They may also update the final element rating level in the Derivation Formula and Calculation of the Rating of Record section, if necessary.
The text box supports unlimited characters, allowing for a detailed narrative as needed.
The following fields are displayed:
- Approving Official Narrative (Optional): Use this text box to enter the approving official’s statement, documenting their assessment of the rating official’s recommended performance rating and confirming it is fair, consistent, and compliant with agency policy and standards.

Derivation Formula Calculation of the Rating of Record
- Critical Element Point Values: The numerical score assigned to a critical element based on the rating level it receives and the weight that element carries in the performance plan.
- Critical Element List: Displays each element name.
- Element Rating Initial: Shows the rating value assigned for each element
- Element Rating Final (if changed): Shows the rating value assigned for each element if changed by higher review. The Approving Official may edit this section Rating and Signing the Plan as an Approving Official
- Weight: Displays the percentage weight assigned to each element in the plan.
- Score Initial: Automatically computes the weighted score for each element
- Score Final (if changed): Automatically computes the weighted score for each element if changed by higher review
- Total: Totals the weighted scores to determine the final rating.
- Rating of Record Ranges: The numeric score intervals that correspond to each summary performance rating level
- Rating Official's Recommended Rating: Allows the Rating Official to confirm or adjust the calculated rating
- Save: Click the button to store your changes without submitting. This allows you to continue editing later before releasing it for review.
